Earthworm Jim is such a groovy guy, and for a bipedal annelid he’s a pretty studly hero. He started out as a character created by Doug TenNapel, and became Dave Perry’s poster child for Shiny entertainment from a time so long ago it’s referred to as “back in the day”. The series began life on the Sega Genesis, progressing to nearly every console and platform it could be ported to. Several sequels were spawned, including an ill-fated Earthworm Jim 3D, even to the point of Jim showing up on Saturday Morning Cartoons. The quirky evil deeds of Professor Monkey-for-a-head, Queen Slug-for-a-butt, Psycrow, and Evil the Cat carried through every iteration of the series and I’m happy to report that they’re still alive and well in Earthworm Jim HD.
So what are you getting when you buy Earthworm Jim HD? Well, it’s a remake and re-imagining of the original Earthworm Jim. You’ll find the same game mechanics: shooting, platforming, whipping things with Jim’s body, and launching cows. The irreverent humour hasn’t gone anywhere. Continue reading »
