It’s Sonic’s 19th Birthday and to celebrate we’ve got four classic Sonic games on sale on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace. If you love 2D sidescrolling hyperspeed platforming you’ll enjoy these. Recast in HD, and with both Local and XBL mutliplayer (in Sonic 2 and 3) these games will provide hours of fun for 240MSP each.
Crackdown was a sleeper hit. Bundled with the Halo 3 beta, many gamers assumed that it wouldn’t be very good and passed it by. If you’re one of those gamers, go dig it out and get back to me in a week when you’re finally able to put it down for a few minutes.
The premise of both Crackdown and Crackdown 2 is that you’re a super-powered Agent of (predictably) The Agency. In the second game you’re up against two major forces: The Cell, a terrorist group bent on anarchy, and The Freaks, mutated zombie-like things that are out to convert or kill anything that isn’t like them.
Crackdown 2 has an exclusive invite-only window on the demo for this weekend, so we at 360 Arcadians got a first look at what the new game has in-store. The demo has a 30-minute time limit that we ran down several times in succession. You’ll have to start again after each clock reset, but it’s worth it just to get a look at the world of Crackdown 2. Earthworm Jim is such a groovy guy, and for a bipedal annelid he’s a pretty studly hero. He started out as a character created by Doug TenNapel, and became Dave Perry’s poster child for Shiny entertainment from a time so long ago it’s referred to as “back in the day”. The series began life on the Sega Genesis, progressing to nearly every console and platform it could be ported to. Several sequels were spawned, including an ill-fated Earthworm Jim 3D, even to the point of Jim showing up on Saturday Morning Cartoons. The quirky evil deeds of Professor Monkey-for-a-head, Queen Slug-for-a-butt, Psycrow, and Evil the Cat carried through every iteration of the series and I’m happy to report that they’re still alive and well in Earthworm Jim HD.
So what are you getting when you buy Earthworm Jim HD? Well, it’s a remake and re-imagining of the original Earthworm Jim. You’ll find the same game mechanics: shooting, platforming, whipping things with Jim’s body, and launching cows. The irreverent humour hasn’t gone anywhere. Continue reading »
